If indeed what you say is true then its very serious... these things should be investigated before a ban.

But as you have no report or reason then you cant exactly assume thats what you was banned for.

I got banned in City of Heroes for for trying to get people to pay me influence for a non-existent license to fight in Paragon city... it was only a joke and we were messing about, but in any case It wasnt until about a month after the fact they banned me.

so I wouldnt make assumptions. I would first try find some facts.

OP should ask himself this question: "Is pretending to be a spambot that sells Guild Wars merchandise for real-life money a smart thing to do?"

If the answer is "no", then perhaps he should think more carefully next time before doing such a thing.

Wait...you got suspended for imitating the virgood spammers, yet no action is taken against the spammers themselves?

Be thankful it's a simple 21 hours suspension.

Major thumbs up on the whole cheese thing though, we like cheese ALMOST as much as we like Pie (Xags).

You know.. Sometimes you sit around in tombs 1 waiting for your party to get assembled, talking about build strategy... Then you start walking around.. The next thing you know you're yelling "WTS uber leet smiting hammer of justice BEST WEAPON IN THE GAME! PM ME!" to see how many replies you can get saying "can i c it?"

Just report them, don't emulate or mock them, cause it could be misinterpreted. they have every log monitor scanning every district ATM. so this si not the time to do something silly. You will be ok and should receive an e-mail or letter (snail mail) from them within a few days explaining the reason behind the temp ban. just be away. that's your warning... don't push it. Trust me,. I have seen some people Totally locked out recently. and they are now out of luck, even with buying a new copy of the game they can not get back in, via IP or via physical Address. Its quite unfortunate.

Someone reported me for the PVP-Name "Dude wheres my heal". Now i can "clearly" see why someone feels offended by that. Cough. Cough. Cough. Gotta love paranoids. They see insults everywhere, then screenshot things, twist and turm them long enough to make real insults out of them and then send them in to get you banned and... succeed.

Yes.. it is kind of stupid.

Just like that woman who came through an airport in america not so long ago... she said to the security guy

"I've got a bomb"

and she said it three times... so they arrested her.

When she admitted she was "only joking".. they charged her with wasting time.

I suspect you've been banned for simply joking... because.. ITS NOT A JOKE!... DONT DO IT!

well. no they do not just take the SS word for things..

Arenanet does in fact log all text content in the game. even in instances. If they know the time and place, and those involved they can search a log for that instance. I normally do a /bug report with a ref number, which I put into the report post in support area. Then the staff can easily search the /bug log and grab the exact instance snapshot server side and pull that information up.

This is a old beta trick for reporting... it still works very well for log searching...

So no need to worry about fake screenshots. that just gives them a general idea, they very much look at the server side information and go from that on what to do..

you'll be back up in no time.

ingy.

i did the same this with badgerbadgerbadger.com
course the message was only like the virgoods thing in language and form. never used the same message twice.
got plenty of laughs.
no ban on my side. and anyway you have to submit the time and character that you were playing with. i presumed so that they could check the whole conversation.
obviously they don't bother with that all the time.

To Sagius: I'd just avoid imitating anyone breaking the rules, as yes, there are blockheads everywhere.

kawaii_bat, Anet has access to chat logs for pretty much anything. Screenshots help but they can see the whole chat anyway.
How do you know this ?

That's scary!

Yeah that's wierd too. I think virgood has probably many accounts or change their names often or something. Cause Anet is probably banning like he!! and they are *still* there. If it ever comes to it they'll have to take legal action against the corp. itself.

(User Name's pointless post removed)

I do remember making fun of one of those Virgoods representitives by copying their add, but lowering the prices and replacing "www.virgoods.com" with "www.cheese.com." Several people said they would have reported me if they didn't see the 'cheese'. I'm sure a few people did.

What kind of idiot sees a name like www.cheese.com and thinks it's an illegal blackmarket for online gaming? If I was suspended for this.. They didn't even check the website?

Otherwise, I seriously have never cursed on Guild Wars before. I don't talk about sexual things. I don't do stuff like that. Sure, I can cause a bit of commotion in an arguement, but not to that much of an extreme.

I heard one person talking about how they got banned for a week for logging in and out of characters. I know I was recreating alot for PvP, I wonder if that has something to do with it.

I sent them a letter, but I am completely baffled. I see posts like this all the time. It seems like the GW support team could save alot of time by just sending people a letter, telling them what they did wrong and for how long they are being suspended.
My two cents; maybe posting any web site address other than Arena Net approved web addresses got you in the penalty box, especially since cheese.com is a legitimate web site and could have been construed as advertising? Remember, the mods don't mind read.
